Male sexual dysfunction

What is male sexual dysfunction? Sexual health problems related to men which include impotence. Impotence covers many points like arousal problems, decrease in sexual desire, ejaculation difficulties and orgasm. Erectile dysfunction is also a crucial part of it.

How erection takes place?

An erection needs a stimulation and sexual desire. Impulse from the brain and the local nerves lets the muscles of the corpora cavernosa [two chamber of penis] to relax and thus there is a coordinated flow of blood to the penis. This strong flow of blood puts pressure on the corpora cavernosa and thus the penis expands. Tunica albuginea [membrane that surrounds corpora cavernosa] helps to hold the blood in the penis to sustain the erection. This is how erection takes place.

What is erectile dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction is the inability to get an erection even after a sexual arousal. This makes both the man and his partner unsatisfied in bed. This condition can even break relations. Thus this proves that maintaining your sexual health is as important as any other health issue. This medical condition is very discouraging for men and they lose confidence in themselves.

Causes of erectile dysfunction

ED doesn’t happen just like that, there has to be reasons for it. Let’s check out the causes for erectile dysfunction:

  • Psychological factors

Guilt, stress, anxiety, lack of sexual experience and feeling of failure are the major factors contributing to erectile dysfunction.

  • Medical factors

Certain medicines have the side effects of temporary impotence. These are the medicines used for the treatment of blood pressure, antihistamines, antidepressant, tranquilizers and obesity.

  • Lifestyle

Lifestyle plays a major role here. Since the modern life has influenced our life we have adopted ourselves to certain bad and good habits. Addictive habit like smoking and high consumption of fatty food has left people helpless and has complicated their health. Lack of physical exercises and obesity are also the major causes.

  • Surgery

Certain surgeries injure nerves and arteries around penis which raise the risk of ED. Injury to spinal cord, bladder or prostate can cause ED.
